Timothy Mason's 1988 bedroom farce about five eccentric young adults looking for love (and the deus ex machina who unites them) feels dated and dry. And the young performers in this debut staging by Rubicon Theatre Project never manage to reach beyond themselves to connect with the other actors--sometimes it feels as if they're performing in five different plays. Clumsy direction from Josh Johnson slows the action to a slog. Adding to the awkwardness, he leaves in 1980s references while dressing the cast in 2005 attire. The one bright spot is Kassi Dallmann, the only cast member who's funny without being forced as a neurotic woman who eats when things are going wrong. Through 10/16: Fri-Sat 10:30 PM, Sun 6 PM. Apollo Theater, studio, 2540 N. Lincoln, 773-935-6100. $15-$20.
