Re: “Save Cantina 1910 from ignorant Yelpers

I agree that Cantina 1910 is a great addition to Andersonville and that some of the Yelp reviewers clearly had inappropriate expectations when they visited the restaurant.

That said, your anti-Andersonville bias casts a cloud over your entire review, making me wonder if you evaluated the food objectively or if you went into the restaurant determined to love it in order to teach Andersonville a lesson.

It's true that Premise and Pasticceria Natalina didn't enchant the neighborhood. And we had good reason not to be enchanted.

The former owners of In Fine Spirits restaurant, which served sensational small plates accompanied by exciting wines by the glass, decided to change this hugely popular and well-beloved establishment into the more expensive Premise. Some of us were priced out, and some of us just simply weren't interested in hanging out at the place that was the cause of the demise of a neighborhood favorite.

Pasticceria Natalina was not a friendly establishment, and its products failed to live up to their price tags. Consider the time my friend, in order to thank me for hosting her in my apartment, insisted on purchasing me a $18 bag of perhaps six or seven macaroons. I bit into one immediately, and it was tough as a hockey puck. This was not the kind of baked good I remember from when I visited Sicily.

And Great Lake Pizza never had a shortage of customers, as noted in other comments. Two-hour waits were not uncommon.

Premise and Pasticceria Natalina closed because of their own failings and poor choices. Not because Andersonville doesn't understand good food. Big Jones, Ombra, Anteprima, The Brixton... All these places serve exciting food that's not necessarily inexpensive, and they seem to do just fine. If Cantina 1910 follows in their footsteps, they'll do just fine, too.
