Charlize Theron, in nonglam mode, dominates this powerful drama about sexual harassment at a Minnesota iron mine in the early 90s. Physically abused by her husband, she hits the road with her two kids, finds shelter with her parents (Richard Jenkins and Sissy Spacek), and takes advantage of a Supreme Court ruling to hire on at the mine where her father works. But the women there are mercilessly hazed, and eventually Theron begins prodding them to act. Michael Seitzman based his script on Clara Bingham and Laura Leedy Gansler's nonfiction book Class Action, indulging in some Hollywood tropes (a courtroom melodrama that frames the action) but anchoring the story in the women's grimy work lives. Niki Caro (Whale Rider) directed; with Frances McDormand, Sean Bean, and Woody Harrelson. 123 min. Century 12 and CineArts 6, Crown Village 18, Davis, Gardens 1-6, Golf Glen, Lake, Norridge, Pipers Alley, River East 21.
