Great article on Rich Berger ["The Kindest Cut," August 4]. I have had both hips replaced by Rich, one 11/01 and the other 11/03. Second surgery was via MIS [minimally invasive surgery]. Checked into Rush at 6 AM. Berger came to see me after surgery at 3 PM. He said, "Let's see you walk." I got up, walked down the hall and back. He took away one of my crutches and said, "Go home." I was back to work in three days and on a bike in five. Berger runs a great practice and has a kind, caring, and efficient staff. He should be the model of what a true practitioner should look like.
