Remember when cosmopolitans were the "it" drink? Back then my friend Melissa and I, we went to Espial every Wednesday night. A normal evening there would have been four to six cosmos--we were so young and got so ripped. They were like butter. You never tasted the vodka in their cosmos. They had this secret recipe. Anyway, we were happily drinking away when all of a sudden the bartender stops, excuses herself, and says, "I'll be right back," and she leaves the bar and goes into the bathroom. She had this great name, which I can't tell you because I don't want to embarrass her. About ten minutes later we see the bathroom door open and her whole mood has changed. She comes back out as if it's the happiest moment of her life. She stands behind the bar and announces that for the rest of the night drinks are free and it's like whoa, what happened? Then she says, with a big sigh of relief, "I'm not pregnant." We toasted her good news for the rest of the night. Though the flavors have shifted--now it's wine at Cru--we still miss our cosmopolitan nights.
