New Peking | Lakeview | Asian, Chinese, Korean | Restaurant
Lakeview Chinese restaurant offering a few Chinese-Korean dishes tweaked to suit the neighborhood.

Our Review

Shandong ren, Chinese-Koreans, were important in developing restaurant culture in Korea, and in the 70s and 80s they began bringing their distinctive hybrid cuisine to the States. New Peking Restaurant offers an example of how traditional dishes such as cha chiang mian-- whole-wheat noodles in black bean sauce--continue morphing. New Peking serves its cha chiang mian with beef instead of pork, and there’s no vinegar or chile powder on the tables, condiments the dish is traditionally served with. In fact, so few Korean customers visit the restaurant that the proprietors don’t even serve kimchi--unthinkable in Korea, or even in Albany Park.
