Sarah Palin might have scripted this wearying rom-com, about an officious Miami businesswoman (Renee Zellweger) who arrives in a frigid Minnesota town to shut down a local plant but falls under the spell of the affectionate townspeople and a hunky, bearded union rep (Harry Connick Jr., woefully miscast). The script is a lean-to of brittle cliches: the board members closing the plant are all pitiless human calculators; the townspeople are all stupid but good-hearted; the businesswoman must get her comeuppance and have her soul awakened. The laughs and emotional moments are so weak that director Jonas Elmer has no choice but to tweak them with music cues and bland guitar-rock. With Siobhan Fallon, J.K. Simmons, and Frances Conroy. PG, 96 min.
