Regarding John Conroy's "House of Screams" (Jan. 26)

Did it happen at Area 2? If it did, it's progress. The cops in my neighborhood said that in the old days a cop killer would never make it to the station house. It usually went something like this. They would arrest the suspect, handcuff him and lead him down the stairs. About halfway down someone would put their foot in his back and push him down the stairs, draw their guns and open fire. They would remove the handcuffs and report that he tried to escape.

So I guess torture by electroshock is progress, in a way.
