Victor Herbert's operetta served as the excuse for the first pairing of Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, the most popular (and now most notorious) musical team of the 30s. The score includes the parodist's favorite, “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life,” and other numbers too annoying to mention. Woody Van Dyke directed (1935, 106 min.).
