Re: “An endangered piece of history beneath Lake Michigan's surface

I can't wait to explore the shipwreck when the water gets warmer. For those that have not visited the beach along this stretch of the lake, there really is nothing like it in the city. The lakefront on the Northside, though nice and clean, is sterile and industrial, with long stretches of concrete and steel. This beach is the closest we have to a natural beach in the city. Indeed, when you sit on the fallen stone slabs, which have been smoothed, over and over again, by winter storms, you appreciate and respect the power of nature, all within the shadows of the towers downtown. While I would support efforts to remove and replace some of the crumbling debris along the beach, to the extent doing same improves access to the beach a safety for its visitors, I think it would be tragedy if we bulldozed this beach. Perhaps this shipwreck, which was destroyed by the beach, will end up saving the beach.
