Naked Raygun, the Dwarves | Cobra Lounge | Rock, Pop, Etc | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Mon., Dec. 31, 8:30 p.m. 2012
It was likely a combination of several deliberate provocations—cover art featuring a dwarf and two fully nude females covered in blood, track names such as “Let’s Fuck” and “Skin Poppin’ Slut,” and, well, the album title Blood, Guts & Pussy—that stirred up controversy upon the release of the Dwarves’ debut for Sub Pop in 1990. It was likely the same combo that instantaneously immortalized the band in the pantheon of hard-core GG Allin-style shock punk. More than two decades later, front man Blag Dahlia and company—masked and often naked guitarist HeWhoCannotBeNamed only sometimes plays with the band live, and wasn’t around when I saw ’em in Austin last month—are still living the dream, playing fast, sloppy punk and offending as many people as they can for their own amusement. At 30 minutes total, last year’s The Dwarves Are Born Again (MVD) is much longer than the band’s 13-minute “masterpiece,” but it carries the same message: We’re all depraved. And fuck you. —Kevin Warwick Naked Raygun headlines.
