Actor Peter Weller, who portrayed author William S. Burroughs in David Cronenberg's 1991 film adaptation of Burroughs's novel Naked Lunch, hosts a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the publication of the book. Scheduled guests include performance artist Penny Arcade, poets Anne Waldman and John Giorno, UIC education prof Bill Ayers, and authors John Long (Drugs and the "Beats"), Kurt Hemmer (Encyclopedia of Beat Literature), and Columbia College prof Tony Trigilio (Allen Ginsberg's Buddhist Poetics). The event also features live music, an exhibit of Burroughs's artwork, and the screening of a trailer from Yony Leyser's documentary, William S. Burroughs: A Man Within. An afterparty follows from 9:30 "until it ends" at Stop Smiling Storefront, 1371 N. Milwaukee, with music by David Daniell and Douglas McCombs, Penny Arcade, and DJs; admission to the party only is $10.
