Writer-director Yulie Cohen Gerstel's extraordinary life is practically a distillation of Israel's history. As an army officer's daughter growing up in Tel Aviv her neighbors were Ariel Sharon and Moshe Dayan. During her service in the Israel Defense Forces she participated in the rescue at Entebbe, later resigning her commission after the massacres at Shatilla and Sabra. She made headlines in 1978 when, working as an El Al flight attendant, she survived a terrorist attack in London. Two decades later, now a staunch advocate of the peace process, she traveled to England to campaign for the release of the Iraqi terrorist who targeted her for murder. Gerstel's unflinching self-examination and her commitment to dialogue—however raw or fractious—make this 2002 documentary compelling viewing. In English and subtitled Hebrew. 58 min.
