In the Chicago Mammals’ late-night goof on My Dinner With Andre, playwright Jon A. Gleason imagines a reunion for trash auteur John Waters and his muse, Divine, who in real life died in 1988. Over drinks at a fancy restaurant, the drag legend reveals how she faked her death, spent time at a pray-away-the-gay camp, and eventually found work as a sumo wrestler in Japan; now she’d like to return to the screen as a serious actor. The premise is kind of funny, but the script never goes far enough into Waters-level depravity—except, of course, when Gleason lifts gags directly from Pink Flamingos. Sean Ewert makes an entertainingly catty Waters, but Marty Grubbs's Divine is way too hoity-toity. —Zac Thompson
