A tightly wound car salesman discovers that his success at work depends on the whims of his own personal muse--a coarse, ugly crone who lives under his bed. What's more, she has a crush on him and wants him to give up a budding romance with a mousy coworker in exchange for continued high performance. Apparently torn over whether to fashion an allegory about a Faustian bargain, a forgiving portrait of tough choices, or a dark sitcom about a psycho girlfriend, playwright Amy Whittenberger has settled for a schizo blending of all three, treating her characters with compassion one minute and contempt the next. Her staging for Tympanic Theatre Company suffers from a similar confusion of purpose, made worse by the cast's perpetual tizz. --Zac Thompson
