Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Jan. 2 2011
Price: $12-$15
In this nutty 2002 parody of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, Christopher Durang turns Bob Cratchit's wife, Gladys, into one of his trademark women on the verge of a nervous breakdown. What's driving her crazy is precisely what warms Scrooge's shriveled heart in Dickens's novella: the Cratchit family's unrelenting high spirits in the face of hunger, poverty, and Tiny Tim's poor health. "This is exactly what I can't stand!" Gladys wails. "All this pathos!" Despite some outdated cracks at Enron, Touched by an Angel, and Ivana Trump, the script puts a fresh and funny spin on a spoofed-to-death classic. Michael Buino's staging for A Reasonable Facsimile Theatre Company sags in the second half but boasts some delightfully daffy performances, especially from Samantha Garcia as the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come. --Zac Thompson
