Troubled young lawyer Freely once represented union busters. Now, in a risky attempt at atonement, he's pursued volatile Mother--fundamentalist zealot and leader of the blood-thirsty trucker gang, the Disciples--to a roadside diner where non-Disciples dare not set foot. His pitch: let me unionize your outlaw drivers. Playwright Jayme McGhan supplies almost everything needed to make his new drama great: intriguing characters, life-or-death stakes, and confounding moral dilemmas. And Jason Boat's smart, committed cast provide vivid performances for this Mortar Theatre premiere. If McGhan cuts back on the overwrought, salty dialogue and works harder to differentiate between the dramatic and the merely convenient, his story will be as credible as it is compelling. --Justin Hayford
