The semi-estranged Lynch siblings join semi-demented matriarch Teresa in her living room and sit around for nearly the entire hour-long first act of this 2009 drama by Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan. Minor tensions surface (Teresa forgets to take her pills, tightly wound daughter Niamh resents Teresa's nosiness, caretaker daughter Ciara resents Niamh's unwillingness to help out) but none of them provides meaningful dramatic stakes—a problem Jonathan Berry's tension-free staging exacerbates. Then, in the act's final minute, Niamh blurts out the family's dark secret. In the second act people mostly process their feelings. Steep Theatre has assembled a top-shelf cast (Cynthia Marker is astonishing as Niamh). But Kinahan's only insight is that awful things make people upset until they get over it. —Justin Hayford
