Re: “Petterino's

I went here after a play at the Goodman - the restaurant is next door. We had a late night theatre menu. The menu was okay - kind of like 1950-1960 menu's, but all right for a late night theatre menu. Shrimp cocktail good, very fresh shrimp, the snapper soup would have been better had it been hotter. Our entrees were okay - chicken hash needed some spice - the chopped salad should have been chopped more and served with blue cheese dressing, the dressing they served it with was boring - the fries were good. One interesting thing, we ordered a $75.00 bottle of wine, they took a long time in bringing it to the table and then it was the wrong vintage. Our server did not acknowledge the change in vintage we did. He said it would be the same price as the one we ordered, we agreed. We never said anything to the server, but both of us thought we should have been charged a lower price as it was not as good a year for that wine,as the one we ordered on the menu. Subsequently, the maitre'd came to our table apologized and paid for the bottle of wine. I was very impressed with that level of service, because we never mentioned it to our server and would of just paid the bill. Our server did take the time to go to mgt and they did more then was necessary.

Re: “N9ne Steak House

The restaurant is a lot of fun. It combines two elements that make a great city restaurant - innovative food (the appetizer portion of the menu is the most interesting) that is well prepared and a "scene". Great people watching - trendy crowd. After dinner there is a bar upstairs (The Ghost Bar) which is definitly for triple crown winners - young, rich and beautiful - I'm none of them but still enjoyed myself. I have been to Nine, three times since they opened and all of my dinner meals were exceptional. I had lunch there and thought the menu was boring. Although I would not frequent Nine on a weekly basis - its too trendy for someone my age (46), I would definitly go back.

I have been to this restaurant frequently as it is close to my home. I like the ambiance of the room and during the week it is usually not very crowded. Weekends can be very crowded. The food is inconsistent. I have had some very good meals and some very mediocre meals. They do have some of the best french fries in the city and the daily specials are generally very good. I would not recommend this restaurant on a weekend, as you have to wait, even with reservations......and who wants to wait for what could possibly be an average meal.
