Re: “Before he became a voice of the American right, Orson Scott Card wrote a really good book

Add him to the list of great artists with repellent political views. Let's see, last name starts with a "C." We'll stick him right before Walt Disney.

Re: “When death row and dog cages are a step up in the world

Suk, Tamms was specifically reserved for the most violent offenders. I may not know their specific crimes, but it's not assumption that these were especially dangerous men.

If you want to accuse me of a lack of compassion without having ever met me, that's your choice. But please, for the sake of civilized debate, I beg you not to assume that because you have differing opinions with someone, that they are uneducated or thoughtless.

Re: “When death row and dog cages are a step up in the world

"These are human beings we are talking about" - True, but so were/are their victims. The thing that raises you and I up above these criminals is that we have compassion for the innocent. We, also have enlightened conversations like these about the worst our society has to offer. And, it doesn't show a failing on our part to demand harsh punishment for those who've demonstrated a lack of compassion or enlightenment.

"Respectfully, that's about as insane as the conditions described." - You'll be relieved to know I'm not insane...or cruel...or a jerk. But thank you for keeping the tone respectful. I'll do the same.

To be fair, like most CR stories, I thought the story was well-written and appreciate the thoughtful responses you guys have written. I just don't feel like an injustice has been done. And, I might be the most unpopular guy in the room right now, but I want to thank you all for keeping it civil. Peace.

Nothing about this seems cruel or unusual. Plus, considering what this person must have done to warrant this makes it unreasonable to feel any sympathy.

Re: “It's official: White Sox fans are stupider than Cubs fans

Tickets are on StubHub for their next home stand in the $3-7 range. Even if you buy a hot dog and a beer, that's around $20. Oh, and our fifth-place Cubs are still getting better TV ratings. Hard to make the loyalty claim when going to the game is actually pretty cheap...and you won't even watch it at home.

Fairweather or bandwagon seem less offensive, yet equally accurate. Thank you. This story made me smile. Go Cubs!

Re: “My Mad Men problem

I felt the complete opposite. It was great to see that Jon Hamm was more than a one-dimensional TV actor.

And, you forgot his role in "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret." Well worth the time if you missed it
