Re: “Our fifth annual Photo Issue

This photo issue does not live up to its predecessors. 2011 was the year that gay Chicagoans earned the right to be married. Our new Mayor Emanuel performed the first weddings himself. The occupy Chicago movement is nothing compared to the protests happening every day at the Board of Education. The city is alive with change, so why has the Reader decided to prints photo of outdated Obama graffiti cropped at the knees and cliche depictions of homeless people in low light heavy contrast?

And the heavy paternalism in this year's narrative is just laughable, "your submissions prove that money—whether it puts one in a position of raw vulnerability or inspires a moment of great strength—is a force that moves us."

Yes yes money moves us. So does getting free content under the guise of a "photo contest."
