Dump Trump or Lock Him Up- A Black Mans Perspective- by Mell Monroe
Over the past months, President Donald Trump has been the personification of ironical facts leading him to his political demise and then America will soon be great again. All over the world, and very soon, people will be chanting either dump Trump or lock him up.

Trump was a true renegade during the entire 2016 election period by conducting relentless attacks on Hillary Clinton for allegedly participating in illegal activities throughout her political career. On the other hand, Donald Trump is a billionaire with a well-documented past practice of not doing the right thing but so far he has not been held responsible. The legal aspects of his behaviors will surface starting now.

The Donald sought numerous opportunities to ridicule and humiliate Hillary, and any woman or man for that matter, by making crude and off the cuff comments in the effort to win at any cost. He has managed to insult the media, judicial officials, senior republicans and anybody who disagrees with his style of doing business. Trump has created many enemies. He will come to realize his own reality, not television show reality, and it will haunt and stress him out over the next 6 months as President of the United States.

On the present course, Im afraid Republicans will wade through the waters of giving the President the benefit of the doubt as they indulge in the politics of being self-serving, while America will once again be on hold. America will witness the President being on trial right before our eyes, without a court system, but instead on Americas television screens. We are losing faith in the honesty of Americas highest office and our elected officials. Rest assured, all nationalities, ethnic groups, religious faiths, genders and voting parties will be exhausted by the drama of -politics as usual.

Already Trumps legacy has been a painful experience for his family and everyone around him, mainly because he cannot get out of his own way. He has the inability to trust others who are smarter than himself.

Performing as President at 70 years old with little to no sleep, and stumbling around late at night to find the way to his new bathroom is more than a notion. Waking up and tweeting first thing in the morning after a restless night will only reveal what most of us already know. Most republicans will start to discover that Donald Trump is truthfully a bad hombre. And making half-ass attempts to learn the complexity of Americas executive and legislative branches of government, our judicial system and hard ball politics is more than just doing deals based on a brand name that was given to the Donald by his father.

Trumps personality is far too overwhelming for politics, which is why he avoids learning about priorities and is off golfing and hosting camera-ready events and issuing tweets to say the last word. Trumps insecurities have gotten in the way of progress and once again, his disastrous debut as President is a real dilemma for America. It will set us back- big time.

Under President Obama, I thought our system was at its worst for the past six years when the Republicans controlled both the house and senate and would not cooperate with a Black President. Nothing got done. I was wrong- over the next few years, or post- Trump, once again nothing will get done in America.

From the day Trump took office, not only has nothing gotten done, but he has managed to shatter and abort our faith in government and caused us to have profound questions about our system. Our so-called President has almost single-handedly botched it up.

Trump is screwed up. Lets call it what it is. The President can psychologically and analytically be classified as narcissistic, self-serving, insecure, disagreeable, greedy, over-confident, gregarious, racist, controlling, impulsive, ill-prepared, sleepless, disrespectful, divisive, untrusting, dishonest, bullying, sexist, dispassionate, dishonest, uncertain, brutal and untamable. The next day he can be predictably unpredictable in each of these characterizations. Trump is unstable.

President Trump does not read or listen and knows nothing about leadership. Trump trusts nobody including his kids and those beneath his self-proclaimed throne. Most people around him fear him. Being stupid and arrogant is dangerous. His followers will never disagree with any half-baked proposal or submit their own ideas because he would find it be disloyal. You cannot run a country when you are the most intelligent and most capable man in the world. Its not smart to be the Donald anywhere and everywhere.

The President has real problems. Trumps bravado style, disagreeable temperament, and soon to be discovered illegal acts will eventually overwhelm him. The facts will prove to be painfully clear to trump voters too. I say it is time to dump Trump. Republican leaders will eventually distance themselves away from Trump and rightly so.

The media and intelligence community have it out for Trump mainly because he chumps them on a daily basis, which is not smart at all. It is shameful, degrading and embarrassing to watch a variety of ill-prepared spokespersons try to spin the Presidents bizarre and misdirected thinking processes almost every day on the news. .

For the first time in our lives, somehow our flawed system has elected a man that lives in a world of his own called Trump-land. Along with his cronies, Trump-land is a very disturbed place filled with an unapologetic belief consisting of distortions and un-truths. Influenced by Alt-right wing perspectives that are out of touch with Americas future, Trump and his advisors continue to hurt the credibility of republicans and democratic alike- but also America in every way possible.

Donald Trump walks the line of fact and fiction and he is the only one that does not know how to discern what is real. Trump is clearly over his head and well beyond his capacity for understanding. The President does not possess the resourceful tools it takes to lead our country and certainly not the world. In fact, other countries are already testing our temperament by trial balloon missile launches and other posturing tactics to challenge his leadership. Lets face facts. He is not just incompetent. He doesnt have a clue. Let it go if you are republican. The President has made an immeasurable number of mistakes. Stop making excuses because it is time to dump Trump.

Given the events under Trump during the last 30 days means we need to look to plan B. Trumps past predicts the future. The announcement or executive orders given for the immigration ban, in Donalds own words, was a disaster. His choices for Attorney General and Head of Education were, in the Donalds own words, the worst ever. The stated reason the Mexican President did not meet with him was another lying Trump interpretation. His depiction of the media in response to his numerous missteps is to send out incoherent tweets. His mischaracterization of federal judges is so-called Donald-speak. Trumps reaction to Russia suggesting he would likely get along with Putin while Donald does not get along with anybody is very-very bad. In Donalds words- trust me- everybody in the room knows it- he is a tremendous embarrassment to our democracy. Trump continues to make bankrupt decisions. America must move on.

Ive had enough of Donald Trump. Starting now, adding the title of President to his name is not appropriate. He is unworthy mainly because he has not earned it. Donald Trump does not represent what I believe America is all about.

As a Black man with an ancestral past who can convey a number of insightful and factual explanations placing fault on what has gone wrong about America, my people have earned a voice. We were not immigrants but forced here. We share part and parcel of the immigrant experience too. Black people like me deserve and have earned the right to declare an informed opinion about what is fundamentally wrong with Donald Trump. This man undermines what is mostly good about America despite its imperfections. Black folks get him. Trump represents the worst part of Americas character.

Profoundly, now is the time to start our own impeachment message or a protest aimed at dumping Trump or locking him up. Donald Trump is no more than a privileged little man who happens to be White. Like far too many, his authoritative demeanor plays into the old age game of fear played out in the media to suggest that people who dont look or act like him are inferior. Trump wants to be great but greatness is earned. Muhammad Ali was great and cultures all over the world may not have agreed with everything he represented, but everyone respected him because he earned it. Trump needs to take a page out of history to learn what it really means to make America great.

Re: “Can we forgive athletes who stiff the president?

I agree with these athletes. When it looks and talks like a duck- it must be a duck. Trump has no insight nor does he care to learn throughout his private and now political life; and there is more....

Re: “Chicago Reader: Letters to the Editor

Dear Readers:
Commentary: By Mell Monroe- Resident of Chicago- 3/29/16
CHICAGO’S VIOLENT CRIME IS OUT OF CONTROL- Take a Page from NYC- A Few Facts:
Chicago’s crime situation is getting worse every day. People are purchasing firearms and everyone feels threatened. These present day factors remind me of the Al Capone years in the 1920’s and 1930’s when homicides and criminal activity ran amok. Something profound and innovative needs to be done. I believe we need a comprehensive solution involving a complete overhaul of the Chicago Police Department, active engagement by our public officials and a modern version of the “Secret Six”. Only with a multi-faceted comprehensive effort will we be able to restore the faith and confidence of the public in the continued vitality of Chicago.
City leaders need to take out a page from Chicago’s tainted past to address our problem with violent crimes. In 1931, a group known as The Secret Six was formed consisting of six influential businessmen in Chicago who organized the business community against Al Capone. Very little is known of their operations, mandated as they were to be secret, mainly because members of the committee did not want to reveal their names. They provided funds to execute the tax evasion that eventually put Al Capone behind bars and shut down gangster activities. According to Wikipedia, the work of the Secret Six handled 595 cases, aided in 55 convictions, with sentences totaling 428 years. Fines of $11,525 had been paid, and they recovered $605,000 in bonds and $52,280 in merchandise. The Secret Six handled 25 kidnapping and extortion cases in which nine convictions were made. Elliot Ness was hired as a special commission to fight the overwhelming amount of crime in Chicago. In his book, The Untouchables, Eliot Ness says these six men were able to accomplish what three thousand police and three hundred prohibition agents had failed miserably to achieve.
There is a general feeling of apathy about crime, particularly among the police and public officials, including African Americans who reside in the city limits. Wikipedia describes apathy as a lack of feeling, emotion, interest, and concern. Apathy is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation and/or passion. An apathetic individual has an absence of interest in or concern about emotional, social, spiritual, philosophical and/or physical life and the world. The apathetic may lack a sense of purpose or meaning in life. An apathetic person may also be described as a result of the individual feeling they do not possess the level of skill required to confront a challenge. The growing rate of crime in Chicago is intensifying well beyond Black neighborhoods and its effect will interfere with tourism and the world’s perception of America’s 3rd largest city.
What will each of us do about the growing rate of crime throughout Chicago especially among African American neighborhoods where everyone suffers most? Before complaining and criticizing the faults of the police and our public leaders and doing nothing, what facts do you really know about crime and Chicago’s response to it?

12 Facts About Crime Awareness & Chicago’s Response
1) In the first two months of 2016, Chicago has experienced a 100% increase in the number of shootings vs last year. Over the last 3 year, Chicago has seen 200% more highway shootings than any other city in the U.S. Chicago police operate with a “needle in a hay-stack” because resources and funding support is conventionally applied and they are unable to do their jobs.
2) Research has demonstrated that less than .05% of the population of even the poorest neighborhoods in urban cities will actually be involved in gang-related activities; which suggest that only a small percentage of the resident population causes the serious problems that ultimately interfere with economic development, social activities, safe streets and the overall quality of life issues.
3) In the city of Chicago it is estimated that less than 20% of violent crime perpetrators are caught and prosecuted. This results in bad guys knowing that 80% of the time they will not be caught. Violent criminals continue to control and terrorize poor neighborhoods because they can.
4) NYC is using state of the art technologies to reduce violent crimes- and it’s working. Google CompuStat 1 and 2 including smartphones and tablets have been launched to provide state of the art methodologies to effectively and efficiently conduct police work to solve crimes and prosecute offenders.
5) Almost 100 American cities in the U.S. are using Shotspotter technology to respond with a sense of urgency and preparedness to gunshots heard. Chicago officials claim that funds are unavailable to deploy state of the art resources because they don’t leverage the power of crime reduction investors outside of CPD budgets.
6) NYC has 3 times the population of Chicago but has proportionately less violent crime. In January 2016 NYC had a record low number of violent crimes vs years 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012.
7) NYC has invested in numerous technology initiatives to empower police with tools to improve performance and has also created transparency avenues to share information with the public by Mayoral and Police Leadership teams. Chicago has had a notorious track record of doing only marginal work with no accountability.
8) Research has revealed that only 20% of gunshots heard by the public are actually reported to the police. There are many reasons for this, particularly in African American communities where they lose faith in the police showing up and doing real time investigative work.
9) Chicago Public Officials – including the Mayor, Police leadership and Aldermen do not know how to stop violent crime, instead relying on conventional and outdated methods and strategies, such as gun eradication, without seriously exploring what is being done successfully in over 100 cities throughout the U.S.
10) The city of Chicago, rather than CPD, agreed to influence Motorola to invest in 3 Shotspotter installations covering only 3 square miles in 2012 to detect gunshots within 33 feet of their occurrence. Despite rising violent crime rates, Chicago has not invested another penny in Shotspotter technology. CPD has never invested anything out of its own budget for gunshot detection technology despite its availability on the market for over a decade.
11) Chicago’s longstanding CPD monitoring “blue lights” as installed in numerous neighborhoods throughout Chicago has only led to a documented 3 arrests associated with violent crime behavior since their inception. Over 130 Blue lights were installed almost 20 years ago.. Today the blue lights are often in disrepair and there seems to be no available information on whether they have been effective at reducing crime.
12) Residents who live and work in minority communities have lost faith in Chicago’s approach to reducing crime; and many become apathetic to their conditions and will not take an active role in helping to police their communities following even major crimes, which means the police have no ability to handle lesser illegal activities.
