Med Kitchen | Loop | Mediterranean | Restaurant
New quick-service spot in the Loop.

Our Review

This Loop lunch spot comes on like a Mediterranean Chipotle-- stripped, polished, open, and efficient--and whether or not that sounds appealing at first, one has to admit the care and attention to details raise it above that level. The Thanoukos family expands from its home base, Hub's in Lincoln Square, and tries to mix the large-scale efficiency of a chain with the freshness and quality of an independent operation. The results are for the most part favorable. Four spit-fired rotisseries are rolling, offering up hot, moist chicken, pork, steak, and of course gyros. (My gyros meat was pulled from a warming tray when I ordered it during the recently expanded dinner hours, but hadn't suffered.) All can be ordered either as sandwiches, on a fresh-baked pita or in a wrap, or as plates with rice and salad (almost a tomato-cucumber salsa). Falafel is a little salty (in the grand Chipotle tradition), but eveything benefits from the abundant toppings and sides, including a genuinely spicy whipped feta, and the salads are crisp to the bite. The ample seating is especially welcome in the Loop at lunch hour.
