Meat Wave, Greys, Geronimo!, Lasers and Fast and Shit

When: Sun., March 9, 10 p.m. 2014
Price: $5
For the past couple years Metz has been Toronto’s dominant grunge-influenced rock band, getting all the love from music-mag dot-coms such as Spin and Noisey. But our Canadian neighbors can offer us so much more fuck-you feedback and gnarled, bent-up guitar chords. Case in point: Greys. Compared to Metz, this four-piece tends a bit more toward beardy, anthemic early-aughts hardcore—particularly in the vocals—but it’s no less heavy and explosive. Last year’s seven-inch Drift (Kind of Like Records) is a wall of impenetrable noise-rock—it’s slathered in an extra-thick coating of furious angst, and it’s got enough spit, phlegm, cuts, and bruises to give it a proper punk sneer. These dudes have a full-length of new material recorded and ready to roll; it's called If Anything, and it comes out June 17 on Carpark. If you're smart, you’ll plan on getting to this show early and staying late—the selection of local bands on the bill is top-notch. —Kevin Warwick Meat Wave headlines; the Greys, Geronimo!, and Lasers and Fast and Shit open.
