Re: “The new Ed Vrdolyak is nothing like the old one

Very informative article on Sue. I for one can understand what Sue is going through, as my dad was a precinct captain on the Southside of Chicago in the 10th ward before Vrdolyak came along. These individuals that were running for political positions would come to my dad to ask him to go out and canvas for them as they needed the Mexican vote. My dad would ask them, and what are you going to do for the people in the community if you get their votes. If it was the standard clich answer he did his comparisons and usually picked the person that was best suited for the position. The things I seen, and the things that I had heard, especially the back door room deals is unspeakable. Politics is a very ugly business , as I was around to see Mayor Richard J. Daley run Chicago with a Iron fist, as well as Otto Kerner Jr. the 33rd Governor of Illinois. Some good ole boys that were tough as nails. It's not a nice feeling when someone in power has that kind of leverage to make you feel like your their servant to do their bidding. When in reality, you were voted in by people that believed in you to help them in their struggles. It's terrible when you stand up in front of crowd's of people telling them your going to bring a change and you cant because you find out your not a team player because of the ward you represent. So Sue my hat goes off to you, as you have now become the Robin Hood of the Eastside Community. I wish you well, and stay the course. I support you lady Alderwoman. Your friend Martin J. Blanco Sr
