Marmalade | North Center | American, Breakfast | Restaurant
All-day breakfast-and-lunch spot.

Our Review

This warm, welcoming brunch spot at Damen and Montrose has dark wood fixtures and a color scheme of maroon and burnt gold, and the food matches the tasteful decor as a step up from the usual diner fare. Manny’s Diablo Omeletta, trumpeted as the "chef’s signature dish," tosses jerk shrimp into the typical Mexican omelet, then adds a fresh mango salsa on top to provide that spicy-sweet contrast. Lunch offerings, served after 11 AM, include a Brie baguette that slips applewood bacon in alongside healthier ingredients like slices of Granny Smith apples and watercress. The food is uniformly fresh, the service is friendly and attentive, and the cooking is just adventurous enough. The day we were there, the top special was a skirt steak served Benedict style that the proprietor claimed could be "sliced with a spoon."
