Re: “Letters & Comments, January 14, 2010

Marshall Field's was a truly great and historic store, deeply embedded in the history and culture of Chicago. It stood for everything we loved about Chicago - quality, service, elegance and value. Macy's was an interloper, wiping out 153 years of history in one arrogant blow. Beyond this, Macy's is simply greatly inferior store, at least on Terry Lundgren's watch. The marble floors are duct-taped, the escalators are out of service, and handles are off the outside doors, and the greatest name brands have pulled out of the store. When you walk in off the street, the first thing you see is men's underwear. It's truly pathetic, and those of us who knew and loved Marshall Field's continue to hope for a reversal of this misfortune.
