A tribute to the Mexican film actress, a major star in Spanish-speaking movies since the 40s who also appeared in a few European films (most notably Jean Renoir's French Cancan). Doña Barbara (1943), directed by Fernando Fuentes, adapts a Romulo Gallegos novel about the settlement of the Venezuelan savannas. Ismael Rodriquez directed La cucaracha, a 1958 epic about the Mexican revolution, and the 1957 film Tizoc, in which Felix plays an aristocratic woman who becomes romantically involved with a peasant. In Emilio Fernandez's Rio escondido, released the same year, Felix plays a rural schoolteacher. Only the first of these will be shown with English subtitles.
