Like Ron Paul, this show has an unshakable fan base. You know who you are, and you know that if there's an opportunity to see the musical built around ABBA songs, you're going to take it, regardless. So this is addressed to the independents and undecideds out there: With its brainless-but-jolly book and its god-awful-but-infectious pop score, Mamma Mia! can be a nice, lotus-eaterish night out. If I were you, though, I'd wait for a better production. This touring version has a weak—even, at times, amateurish—feel. Most of the supporting roles are engagingly filled, and, among the ensemble members, Thomasina Gross projects pro-quality energy and style. The leads are the problem. Chloe Tucker dithers like a Valley Girl as Sophie, whose wedding triggers the action; Kaye Tuckerman doesn't always reach her notes as Sophie's single mother, Donna; and in the role of Donna's long-lost beau, Christian Whelan looks great but flat-out can't sing. —Tony Adler
