Mall Party

When: Fridays, 10:30 p.m. Continues through Oct. 10 2008
Price: $10-$12
This sketch revue, set in the fictitious suburban Sunnygale Mall, has a lot in common with the mall shopping experience: you've seen most of the products before, but if you look hard enough you'll probably find something you like. Some good ideas (Tyler Perry's House of Paincakes, a food court that takes orders and criminal cases) aren't realized well--but some come close, including scenes with inappropriate mimes and a "rape-fighting" mouse at a kids' show. The cast is serviceable; Joe Avella has flashes of comic craziness. I wanted more of the P.A. announcer who deadpans one-liners during blackouts, like, "Attention shoppers: I am locked in the bathroom" and "My wife left me this morning." --Ryan Hubbard
