Re: “Letters/X 8

I did see last year's show and must say it was great. This year, even so, I went in with no expectations (except for nursing a broken heart as of December). While there were some rough patches, the cast overall had great dynamics and played up just as well as down. The lighting was good and working with just a few instruments, the actors did well to fill the room with hand-plunked one-of-a-kind tunes. Some voices were better than others, but supported by the well staged comic-side-kick cast, there was little ice to break up.

The numbers were meant to be a bit slap stick, I think, and that seemed to come across from the sound of the audience laughing. LettersX/ 8 is playing during the toughest time of the year for seeing a show about lost love—the end of winter—when we are all feeling a bit snarky and worn from the passing frigid months. But, what this show does well is remind us that even in the bitter end, figuratively speaking, we can still find something to laugh about. I recommend giving LettersX/ 8 a first or even second chance before you send your break up note.
