Re: “Roy's

The food itself was delicious. At first I thought the portions looked small, but I cleared my plate, after an appetizer, and I was pleasantly full. The 9 of us shared 2 pupu platters, which consisted of pot stickers, spring rolls, sushi-looking stuff and coconut shrimp, which was very good. I ordered the Macadamia nut dusted halibut, a signature dish of theirs, which was served over creamy garlic mashed potatoes and topped with fresh asparagus. The entire dish was very tasty, I ate the entire thing. I even had room for their decadant chocolate souffle that had to be ordered right after dinner was served because it takes 20 minutes to make. It was heaven, I highly recommend it. The only thing that kept me from giving Roy's a 5 was the price for the proportions. But the meal itself was all around delicious.

Re: “Cross-Rhodes

I've been here before and it's consistant every time, as well as packed full of people (its always busy). The few minute wait is well worth it. First of all, their greek salad is the best I've had with giant chunks of feta cheese and kalamata olives, along with their greek fries - different from regular fries, they're soaked in a vinegar-lemon mixture with oregano (I'm guessing, I would love to find out what it really is). They are delicious. Also notable is the greek chicken and of course the gyros. Huge portions, you could split it with another person. I will be coming here at any onset of a greek food craving.

Re: “House of Blues

The only thing preventing me from giving this place a "1" was the waitstaff and the atmosphere. I went with 5 girls for a pre - bachelorette party dinner and we were seated right away with reservations in a huge booth. Our waiter was fun and put up with our harassment. Their menu is one page, VERY limited, mostly bar type food like sandwiches, burgers, salads and a steak or two. I ordered a cheeseburger (it was the only thing that sounded good to me then) with swiss and mushrooms, cooked medium. After a half hour, I got a well-done, charred burger with no mushrooms and overcooked fries. Usually I say something in these situations but I was SO hungry that I ate it - I couldn't imagine waiting another half hour for a burger. Afterwards, I told our waiter and he felt bad. He brought us a complimentary dessert, which was warm bread pudding with whip cream and some sort of sweet sauce drizzled over it. That was actually the best part of the meal. I will never come here to eat again, but I may stop in for a drink at the bar. Bottom line - a place for tourists and social drinkers, not hungry people.

Re: “Las Palmas

My new favorite Mexican restaurant, Las Palmas exceeded all my expectations. We had no reservations and we sat down right away. The complimentary chips and salsa are out of this world and they refill as soon as you finish it. The guacamole is delicious, you can tell its freshly made. Their margaritas and mai tais are one reason I'll go back again and again, they are perfect. I ordered burritos suizos with ground beef, which is flour tortillas stuffed with tasty seasoned ground beef and topped with cheese and a light tomato-based sauce, and sour cream on the side. The portions are huge and I had to take half of it home. My husband had the chicken and steak fajitas, and it comes to you still sizzling with grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms, and warm tortillas. Again, huge portions, he couldn't eat it all and he's a big eater. Bad for smokers, on weekends only, its no smoking.
This place felt very authentic overall, from the food to the atmosphere, and I will be back very soon.

Re: “Soupbox

This is the place to go for soup. I've been here before and I will continue to go as long as I live in the city. They have 10 giant kettles of homemade soups, different every day. Their chicken and wild rice soup is outstanding. Thick and creamy, full of flavor, and with the complimentary bread that comes along with it, a size medium is enough for a meal and under 5 bucks! I have also tried the corn chowder which is very good, a little sweet but tasty. Bonus: You can sample before you buy.
