With its strong story and fine balance of gorgeous poetry and gore, Shakespeare's tragedy can command rapt attention in even a halfway decent staging. But inspired productions like this one just soar and soar. Director Mary Reynard Liss finds the music in the lines and the raw fury in the fight scenes. Her smart, focused, well-rehearsed, exceptionally well-cast take on the play contains a number of high-concept innovations, including a chorus of "combat witches" who create the sounds of battle. Still, its success rests on the passion and craft of the fine cast, led by John Tyberghein and Lana Smithner as the malevolent central couple. --Jack Helbig
