However hard parents try to limit their children’s exposure to graphic violence, the kids will always find a way. And for some of those kids, the fascination never fades. Meet MACABRE, a 23-year-old local death-metal trio (that’s the age of the band, not its members) whose songs dispense with all the boring filler you get in true-crime books and 48 Hours Mystery and focus (with real wit and nuance) on what’s really important—killing, killing, and more killing. They do have a gentler side—their acoustic side project the Macabre Minstrels covers creepy kids’ songs like “The Cat Came Back” and “Found a Peanut”—but you won’t get any of that this weekend. These shows should be particularly well received by anyone who had to be forced to spend the holidays with their families. Macabre also plays Friday at the Pearl Room in Mokena. —Monica Kendrick
