The documentary team “blackANDwhite” spent two years following David Lynch around as he planned and shot Inland Empire, his first digital-video feature. He's not particularly forthcoming about the methods or meaning of his films, but it's fascinating to watch his oddball imagination at work. Lynch prowls old factories with a still camera, puts Laura Dern through her paces on location, and enthuses about the creative dividends of transcendental meditation. But the documentary's defining moment may be the scene in which he orders a production assistant to find him a one-legged 16-year-old girl, a beautiful Asian woman, and a spider monkey. (What—no dwarf?) 84 min.
