Stacy Keach offers a disappointingly one-dimensional interpretation of Martin Luther in this horribly stagy 1973 film version of John Osborne's relentlessly Freudian play about the origins of the Reformation. The rest of the cast is fine, particularly Alan Badel, brilliant as the Italian legate who comes not to debate Luther but to bury him. Guy Green directed as if all the movies were a stage. With Hugh Griffith, Judi Dench, and Patrick Magee. 112 min.
