The Vagina Monologues is the most obvious precedent for this evening of orchestrated girl talk. Five actresses sit in chairs, staged-reading-style, with scripts laid out before them on stands. Over the course of about 100 minutes, four of them perform monologues or spoken choral passages in which women of various ages, races, classes, and backgrounds talk about, say, "What My Mother Said" or "The Prom Dress" or "The Bra." The fifth actress plays Ilene Beckerman, author of the bestselling memoir on which this show by Nora and Delia Ephron is based. There's a lot of comedy, some well-timed tears, and not much that's surprising. All in all, it's a well-honed niche product, perfect for ladies' nights out. --Tony Adler
