An ill-conceived blend of drama and romantic comedy, this soggy and manipulative love story stars Aaron Eckhart as a best-selling self-help author, secretly depressed and alcoholic, who's on the cusp of TV and merchandising stardom when he reluctantly accepts a speaking engagement in Seattle, the city where his wife died tragically. At his hotel he spots a florist (Jennifer Aniston) with emotional baggage of her own, and their nascent friendship becomes a race as to who can heal the other first. The dialogue is often grating, and some of the situations are distastefully cute, although John Carroll Lynch (Fargo) has a strong supporting turn as a grief workshop client. Thanks to cinematographer Eric Edwards, Seattle looks great onscreen, but the fatuous psychobabble reminds one of Dr. Phil. Brandon Camp directed. PG-13, 109 min.
