Los Borrachos, Atypical Science, Sister Switchblade

When: Sat., Dec. 20, 10 p.m. 2008
Price: $8
They’ve changed their name a couple times, from Orange to Egnaro (“orange” backward) and then to Sister Switchblade, but these local yobs have never strayed from their course: they’re doing their damnedest to bring to Calumet City something like 70s UK lad culture, where everything from kicking heads to wearing women’s underwear is considered laddish so long as you’re drunk enough when you do it. They haven’t released anything since 2006’s The Panties Your Mother Laid Out for You (Reverse Orange), their high-water mark—just above the urinal cake!—but tonight’s show is worth mentioning just because north-side sightings are so rare. The band’s hyperactive Slade- and Status Quo-isms call to mind Spinal Tap in their sheer moreness—I hesitate to imagine what these guys are like onstage. Los Borrachos headline and Atypical Science plays second. —Monica Kendrick
