Re: “Uncommon Ground

The experience of dining at Uncommon Ground is the entertainment factor, which requires compensation in other areas, including service, comfort, and conversation ability. I found the service in the back room (where the music is) to be poor -- for example, we were served our appetizer without plates, and had to ask for glasses of water. Tables are cramped in order to get as many people as possible into the concert area, but I expect that when seeing a show. If you would like to have a conversation with your dinner, dine in the new expansion, which is very nice and removed from the noise of the music. Then enjoy a cup of coffee or a beer with the music in the other room. While the food is average, the atmosphere is outstanding.

The food ran the gamut from exceptional to average, depending on the menu item. My table ordered a variety of items in order to sample a range of tastes, and a range of quality is what we got. Some of the items were outstanding (Cajun stuffed grilled chicken breast) and a great bargain, some were average at best (cornbread, "Cajun" tater tots). The server was a bit uninformed, making it difficult for us to make a decision as we were new to the type of food. The atmosphere compensated for downfalls in service, as the party atmosphere made it a unique and fun dining experience.

Re: “Sweets & Savories

This dining experience was truly wonderful. The food was delicious, especially the bread and the dessert. The service was perfect, and the space is cozy. They share a parking lot with the Pennzoil next door, so parking is free. Also, the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license yet, so it's BYOB until then, which makes a great bargain. The fixed price menu for the Winter Delights (through Feb. 27th) was a bargain, but if they are offering not offering it, the food is a bit pricey. It's a rare find -- a nice restaurant for an affordable price with free parking, BYO, great food and service. My one word of caution: be sure you know what you are getting when you specify your water selection. You may end up purchasing bottled water when you intended only to drink regular water.

T's restaurant and bar is a great Sunday afternoon lunch spot. It's not crowded, smoky, or loud, and the $5 burger special (regular or veggie burger) can't be beat. If you're looking for a bargain burger on a Sunday afternoon, T's is a great option. T's also offers a full menu of typical bar fare as well as full entrees.

Re: “Trattoria Caterina

My entree (portabello ravioli) was average at best, and definitely not up to my expectations. However, my two dining companions ordered seafood and pasta entrees which they found quite pleasing. The service and ambience was good, although I am quite disturbed by the fact that you must walk through the kitchen to use the restroom. Not a bad option for an inexpensive BYO restaurant in the downtown area.
