Re: “In Mayor Emanuel's Chicago, nice aldermen finish last

This is what happens when uninformed citizens vote for people like Pat Dowell. Third ward constituents thought they were upgrading from Dorothy Tillman, and now they have someone who is willing to throw them under the bus called Rahm Emanuel. Dowell has yet to produce a grocery store in the 3rd. Something she promised to do years ago. As a resident of the current 2nd Ward, I am not pleased with these plans. I have a bad feeling that "Dutch Schultz" will get a chance to further tear up the near South Side of Chicago, and drive the African-American community off the land, all in the name of big business.

Re: “Laid off from teaching—forever

Also @ the original IAC, you evidently have no insight as to what happens with the evil machinations of CPS. This teacher was placed on the DNR list because her principal did not renew her twice, for whatever reason! As a PAT (probationary assigned teacher), it is up to the principal's discretion to renew you until you receive tenure. I know of situations where tenured teachers have been displaced and PATs have been kept, which is also not fair, but again it is up to the PRINCIPAL.

In one situation, a PAT was given an unsatisfactory rating because of a personality conflict with the principal, even though she boosted the middle school science scores at the school to the highest in the area! This same teacher was then non-renewed and placed on the DNH list. Not knowing, she applied for other positions. However, the principal at another school wanted her for her staff and was able to circumvent this designation and she is now working at another CPS school.

Before Daley, teachers would take their credentials to the Board and be placed in a position. After Daley, the reign of terror began with many petty, insecure people wielding their power over others. As one principal on the Southeast side once told his staff "You evidently underestimate the power of the principal!"

So, yes, I do understand. Bad evaluation or not, it came down to the principal's decision to non-renew her, for whatever reason, that placed her in harm's way!

Re: “Laid off from teaching—forever

Ben. Thank you for telling it like it is! The Union is ineffective, yet, still taking people's money and CPS is just a sham! When Daley let principals start doing the hiring he opened up Pandora's Box.

When you are dealing with petty, insecure, people who've now been given an ounce of power...they are letting the inmates run the asylum!

It is time for the parents to start going downtown to the 5th Floor of City Hall and CPS board meetings and telling Emmanuel and Brizzard in no uncertain terms to stop short-changing their children!

Never have so few owed so much to so many!
