When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through May 11 2013
Price: $18
Part of a 16th Street Theater season focused on the "American Dream," this one-act by Diana Rodriguez, about two sets of Mexican-American sisters, mixes colorful characters with a muddled message. Nellie and her haughty but compassionate sister Lily are American-born and more privileged than their undocumented help, sisters Big and Little Maria. Amanda de la Guardia is sharp and compelling as Little Maria, engaging in humorous and heartbreaking staccato banter with Miranda Gonzalez. In between hammy transitions and melancholy flashbacks, the show stirs up questions of assimilation and identity. The end is unclear: play the hand you're dealt or rewrite history at all costs? —Marissa Oberlander
