Romantic comedy
Since Knocked Up, Katherine Heigl has starred in a string of ill-conceived romantic comedies, ranging from the drab 27 Dresses to the ghastly Killers. Her latest vehicle tries to milk laughs from tragedy: as a successful caterer, she finds herself cohabiting with a womanizing director of TV sports programs (Josh Duhamel) while they care for the baby daughter of their mutual friends, who've died in a car crash. Credulity is stretched throughout, from a ridiculously lenient social worker to the three neighbors—a single woman, a married woman, and a gay man—who are hot for Duhamel. The movie relies on the notion that postponing sex heightens arousal, but its lovers aren't any better matched post-coitus than they were before. Greg Berlanti directed; with Christina Hendricks.
