Letters/X, Part 3

Now in its third incarnation, this anti-Valentine's Day show of sketches, songs, puppetry, and interpretive dances offers actual "why did you leave?" and "you suck" letters and e-mails. The evening works best when GroundUp Theatre presents both sides of a breakup--a cheating airhead's apology is even funnier contrasted with her mate's cold disdain. Follow-ups are likewise hilarious, as in the extreme disconnect between one former couple three years after they hit the skids. Such juxtapositions also force the troupe to vary its characterizations: too many letters are performed as if by angst-ridden adolescents. There are funny moments, but all the whining and venting can get tiresome. Through 2/25: Tue-Wed and Sat 8 PM, Hungry Brain, 2319 W. Belmont, 773-935-2118, 21+. Free.
