To the editors:

Due to a mix-up in transmitting last week's column (which I suppose, to be honest about it, is not far removed from Chuck Shepherd's "transcription error"), a mistake found its way into the Straight Dope. The second-to-last paragraph should have read as follows:

"This strategy changes the odds dramatically. In fact, it can be shown that if Monte always opens a door when the contestant is right and half the time when the contestant is wrong--a perfectly rational approach--over the long haul the odds of the prize being behind Door #1 versus Door #2 are 50-50."
