Romantic comedy
A materialistic, Type-A career gal (Amy Adams), desperate to marry handsome but shallow cardiologist boyfriend (Adam Scott), is prompted by her doting dad (John Lithgow) to tail her young man to Cutesylvania—sorry, Ireland—where a local folkway permits women to propose to men on February 29 every Leap Year. After bad weather knocks her off course, she's forced to rely on a surly, debt-ridden village barkeep (Matthew Goode) to get her to Dublin on time. They couldn't have less in common, so naturally it's only a matter of time before they fall in love. As modern rom-coms go, this is trite but relatively painless; director Anand Tucker (Shopgirl, Hilary and Jackie) should consider a career shooting travel brochures. PG, 97 min.
