Rated NR · 75 minutes · 2009

British director Shane Meadows follows his disarmingly loopy Somers Town with this annoying 2009 mockumentary in which boorish, self-deluding roadie Le Donk (Paddy Considine) promises to make rapper Scor-zay-zee (Dean Palinczuk) the opening act for the Arctic Monkeys. Largely improvised and shot on the cheap in five days, this lacks either the satiric bite of This Is Spinal Tap or the exuberance of School of Rock. Considine and Meadows (who plays himself) are former band mates as well as screen collaborators (Dead Man’s Shoes, A Room for Romeo Brass), and their ease with each other is palpable. But the gags are either too inside, lazily paced, or simply not funny (as when Scorz recites the Koran).
