Lazo's Tacos | Logan Square | Mexican/Southwestern | Restaurant
24-hour Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu ranging from burgers and shakes to seafood and tacos.

Our Review

For drunken denizens of Logan Square, the corner of Armitage and Western offers two 24-hour taquerias, Lazo’s and Arturo’s, their beacons shining. Having dined at each of them both while unimpaired and at least three bourbon and cokes to the wind, I vote for Lazo’s: its rustic stone wall, thrift-store portrait of Pope John Paul II, and orange plastic and wood laminate bench seats that recall KFC circa 1983 make it tough to resist. Mexican telenovelas from a wall-mounted LCD TV blare as you crunch down on a hangover helper of camarones rellenos, meaty shrimp wrapped in ham and crispy fried mahogany-colored bacon. Resist buying bricklike tamales from the tamale guy at the watering hole and save yourself for Lazo’s airy masa-wrapped chicken version or their spicy, tangy tacos al pastor. Lighter eaters might opt for the tostada de ceviche, with its chunks of creamy diced avocado and limey nuggets of shrimp. The vintage revolving dessert case decked out with gooey strawberry-topped cheesecake and wobbly flan is mesmerizing, but your sweet tooth is better served across the street at Margie’s Candies if it’s still open.
