C. Jay Cox, who scripted the fuzzy Reese Witherspoon comedy Sweet Home Alabama, makes his directing debut with this sincere if fatally contrived gay romance about a fast-living LA waiter (Wesley A. Ramsey) who bets his friends he can seduce the hunky Mormon missionary next door (Steve Sandvoss). This sitcom setup is as bad as it sounds, and Cox never really surmounts it, though the characters deepen significantly after the missionary is caught caressing the waiter and sent home to be excommunicated and shamed by his family. Sandvoss, in his first screen performance, holds the film together with his portrayal of the devout but conflicted young man, who teaches the waiter a thing or two about Christian love when he's not flexing his pecs. 108 min.
