Tiny Italian deli serving tantalizing subs, grilled sandwiches, gelato, and more.

Our Review

For such a small space, this bright, unassuming Italian deli offers an impressive selection of imported and homemade delights, including meats, cheeses, coffee, gelato, pastries, pasta, and fresh bread. What really keeps 'em coming, though, are the sandwiches, which, in addition to being delicious, are moderately priced. This is one of the last places where you can get a huge, truly gut-busting sub for under five bucks -- no small feat considering the location and the fact that the ingredients are top-notch. Most are concocted from various combinations of salami, capicola, mortadella, prosciutto, and pepperoni combined with tomato, provolone or mozzarella cheese, and a substantial dose of olive oil -- the white butcher paper they wrap them in usually turns clear at the ends before you've even had a chance to sit down. The tostinos (Italian for "fancy-pants grilled cheese"), of which there are no fewer than eight varieties, are smaller than the subs but just as tasty. Vegetarians should dig the Verduri Arostiti, which turns arugula, roasted red peppers, eggplant, and goat cheese into a creation greater than the sum of its parts. This is mostly a take-out joint, but there are a few tables inside and a small outdoor patio with some cramped seating.
